Urban Motion Marvels

Session 2: July 22 - August 2, 2024

Urban Motion Marvels

In Urban Motion Marvels, students will embark on a thrilling journey to explore various modes of transportation and unleash their creativity by designing intricate Rube Goldberg-inspired machines. Each student will take charge of a specific section of an imaginary city, collaboratively working with peers to ensure that heir contribution seamlessly connects to neighboring components, ultimately crafting an urban landscape brimming with motion and marvels. Ultimately, students will line up their urban machines to create the chain reaction of this summer’s Rube Goldberg-inspired city.

Real World Relevance

  1. Urban Connectivity: Investigate the intricate connections within cities, and ideate on urban features such as transportation modes, buildings, and daily activities to incorporate into their machines.
  2. Hands-On Mechanics: Provides hands-on, interactive learning opportunities to understand the principles of mechanics, engineering, and physics while envisioning a specific mode of urban transportation.
  3. Collaboration: Fosters teamwork and cooperation as students work together to ensure their individual sections seamlessly integrate into the larger, interconnected machine.
  4. Creativity and Problem-Solving: Encourages creativity and innovative problem-solving as students design and build their machine components to create a cohesive system.
  5. Critical Thinking: Challenges students to think critically and strategically, solving complex challenges as they design, test, refine, and optimize their machine parts.
